The voices and sounds of Cumbria. A unique sound installation by Dan Fox inspired by the  landscape, featuring the people of South Lakes.

Venture along the bank as they whisper words and sounds that are familiar yet eerily unusual.

Cymbria is a multi-channel sound installation. During the summer of 2017 Dan recorded local people talking about their relationship with the Cumbrian landscape. Gardeners, runners, sailors, farmers, coppice workers, young and old.

Their voices are played back through unique cymbal speakers hanging from 12 Victorian style lamp posts . The resonance of the metal cymbals adds an ethereal effect to voices.

Additional environmental and nature sounds recorded by the artist  around Cumbria add an underscore to the piece.

At night LED’s uplight the cymbals adding waves of colour synchronised to the voices.
